SPRING RAWLINGS
Bee&Jay 01
SPRING 01
Today is the first day of high school. I’m not very excited about it to be honest, not that I don’t want to go, I just don’t get all the hype about the new change. Its not a big deal, millions of kids go from eighth grade to ninth, no problem. Although some people, like my best friend James for example, are going through the roof with excitement for high school. He’s such a tool. And speaking of the tool, there he is. He stopped for a total of a second for me to catch up to him. James is very self observant. His short curly little brunette hair and freckles might make you think he seems all cute and nice, but really, he’s just all about James. Of course I’m fully aware on how to act with him, I’ve known James since the first grade. We were best friends and today, we were entering high school together, and he is as exited as a kid seeing an ice cream truck.
“Hey Bee, you ready for this?” He asks enthusiastically.
I rolled my eyes at him, “Why are you making such a big deal out of this?”
He fiend a gasp, “Why aren’t you making a big deal about this?”
“You’re such an old lady, always worrying.” I stuck my tongue out him.
“Old ladies gossip Bee.” He told me in a matter of fact like way.
“Oh that too.” I added with a smile.
We walked on, James going on and on about why I should be excited and other whatnots. The school wasn’t that big, granted bigger than our old middle school but nothing fancy. More kids, bigger building, it made sense. There were kids everywhere. I spotted all the kids in my grade easily; mostly because they were small like James and I, but mostly because the majority of the girls were dressed like mini whores. Dyed hair caked make up, low shirts and signature short shorts. The look for sluts in training. It made me want to gag.
“Jesus Bee! Don’t just stand there!” James yanked my arm in the direction towards the doors. We already knew were our lockers were, thanks to the tour we got the day before. It was either fate, or the only shred of luck I’d get this year, because our lockers were very close together. When we got to them, I twirled around the lock and stuck my grey jacket into the small rectangle. I closed the locker to find James already installing his organizers, paper and spare pencils.
“You are such a freak.” I commented.
He ignored me, and shredded off his spring coat. He pulled out a piece of paper from one of his books, “I think my first class is on the third floor.”
I looked over at the schedule, “Mine’s on first.”
He looked at me, “Did you memorize it already?” he questioned.
I just shrugged.
“And you call me the freak.” He muttered.
I hit him over the head as the bell rang, “Meet back here at lunch, okay?”
He nodded, “Good luck!”
“You too!” I shouted over the fast filling hallway.
RAWLINGS 01
I ran back to the lockers as fast as I could. I had to tell Belia the greatest news of, well life really. She was stashing away her rather large text books when I reached her. Her black ponytail swung from the back of it.
“Hullo James. You seem rather puffy.” She said.
“You will not believe what my gym teacher told me!” I told her excitedly.
She smirked, “You need to loose more weight in order to be accepted into the class?”
“No. He told me I should try out for the school football team!”
She actually looked shocked, “Really? Why? Not that I’m not excited or anything, but you hate physical activity.”
I gleamed, this was the best thing that could ever happen to me, and whatever Belia says can not ruin this, “Bee. The football team. Imagine it. A freshman, star of the team, instant popularity.”
“Uh huh.” she didn’t believe me.
“You have to see me though! I’m amazing!”
She laughed as we walked down the corridors to the cafĂ©, “I’ll watch the tryouts after school today alright?”
I nodded my head quickly as we sat down together by a window.
A group of really hot girls walked our way, and I mean really hot. Short shorts and everything!
“Hey, is anyone sitting here?” A brunette one asked.
Belia shook her head, “Nope, its all yours.”
The brunette one smiled back at her, “Cool, I’m Gemma, by the way. This is Kelly, Steph and Jen.” They were so hot. I can’t even tell which one was which. Except for Gemma, she was the only brunette one. I couldn’t stop looking at her. And then she smiled at me. Today is defiantly my day.
“James. Jaaames. Loooser faccee. Earth to Jay.” Belia was trying to grab my attention.
“What?” I snapped.
Belia just laughed. “Nothing, expect you know the whole staring thing, is this going to become a habit?”
I was not starring. “Is what going to become a habit?”
“Staring like an idiot bluntly in front of pretty girls?” She laughed.
Thanks Belia, way to embarrass me in front of the hottest girl I’ve seen today.
“I don’t mind, especially when he’s a pretty boy.” Said Gemma. Holly crap. My day could not get any better than this. I looked straight at Belia, to see what I should do next.
She raised her eye brows and smirked, so I did it, “I’m trying out for the football team after school, wanna come watch?”
She smiled and looked over at her friends.
“What the hell?” I mouthed to Belia.
“Beats me.” She mouthed back.
“Sure, why not? We’d love to.” Gemma replied.
“Cool.” I said. This afternoon better be great. I have to make the team now.
“Hullo, hullo.” A tall Asian guy with orange hair sat next to Belia, his name was Azumi and he’s in the eleventh grade. This guy is so sick. He’s Belia’s neighbour and he has a different girl every other week. He is so pro.
“Hey Zumi.” Belia said.
“Sup.” I said after.
“How you guys doing on your first day?” he asked while screwing up Belia’s hair.
“Ugh! Fine until you messed up my hair, James.” She whined.
I reached over and fixed her hair, the girl was useless in fixing her own appearance. Azumi laughed.
“I hear you’re trying out for the football team?” He asked me.
“Yeah, you know, my gym teacher wanted me too.”
“You have guts my friends; this school is spineless when it comes to football.”
“Really?” I need to make the team now.
“Yeah the guys on the team get total respect guy.” He said seriously.
“What losers.” Belia muttered.
“It’s true though.” He said seriously. “Anyhow, how are you doing Bumblebee?”
I laughed; she hates it when he calls her that.
“Must you call me that?” she said frustrated.
Azumi smiled, “I must.”
She started peeling the crusts off her sandwich, “Classes are good, and people so far are good. So everything is good. Happy?”
“That’s great! I’m kinda relived that the transitions going smooth for you guys, any how, your dad wanted me to check up on you, and I have and now I must attend to my dear friend Ella over there.” He pointed behind us, to a really hot redhead.
“You are such a whore.” Belia said.
“He’s good, is what he is.” I said eating her unwanted crusts.
“I try. Anyhow, see you younglings later!”
“Cyeah!”
“Bye.” Belia said with her mouth full.
SPRING 02
I’m happy to say that my first day of high school has provided me with no homework, which makes me very happy. Straight after school James and I went to our lockers and then he booked it straight to the change rooms. I am currently sitting across for said change rooms waiting for him to come out. I take out the sketchbook I bought for my art class, and start drawing a copy of the hallway. I’m about half done an outline when James comes out.
He looks really serious and kind of afraid, “I am so effing nervous.”
I look up at him from the floor, “You’ll do great, and even if you fall flat on your face, Gemma will still think its cute, so your safe either way.” I say while putting the book back into my bag.
“I don’t care about Gemma, Bee.” He said instantly.
I gave him a look.
He rolls his eyes, “Okay maybe I care a little, but say I do fall on my face, and then Gemma and all the other guys will laugh their asses off at me.”
By this time I’m up and we’re on our way to the field. “You will be fine. It’s your first time out there, I’m sure they won’t be doing anything too enduring, and you’ve been running all summer, remember? So you in good shape just clam down and be the best you can be.”
“Thanks mom. Now can you give me some real advice?” he asked annoyingly as we put our stuff on the benches.
I sat down, “Hmm. Well seeing as you don’t appreciate my advice, no.”
“Bee,” he whined.
I stopped and thought about it for a second, “Be… aggressive.”
Still standing, he put his hands on his hips, “That’s all you’ve got?”
“James, do I look like an expert in sports?” I asked pointedly. I was a stick that got out of breath by the time I got up to the fourth floor. Sports are not my strongest points.
“Fine. Wish me luck!” and he ran off to the field.
“Luck!” I screamed.
I sat there for a while watching all the boys run around for some time, and I got bored. I pulled out the sketch book again and started to sketch out a running figure on the field. I was sitting there for some time, my eyes flicking from the field to the page.
A voice startled me, “Wow, that’s really good. Bella right?”
I looked up, it was Gemma and her blonde clones. I smiled, “Thanks, and its Belia, not Bella.”
“Wow I feel stupid.” She laughed at her self, the clones laughing with her. They all sat down, Gemma next to me.
“So is that supposed to be James or something?” She asked, looking over at the sketch.”
“Something like that.” I said, folding it and putting it away.
“So are you like, his girlfriend or something?” she asked, the girl wastes no time.
I laughed. “Absolutely not. We’re really close friends; he’s practically my brother really.”
“Oh. That’s cute.” She sounds relived, “How long have you guys known each other, like what, two years or something?”
“Two years?” I chucked, “A bit longer than that, I’ve known James since I was six.”
She looked stunned out of her mind, “Really?”
“Yep. We were both kind of misfits back in first grade, and from that, we became best friends.”
“I see. That’s cool. So, does he have a girlfriend? I mean you would know being his best friend and all right?” she asked.
Now, this will be fun, “No, but it’s really difficult for him to get a girlfriend.”
She looked confused, “Why’s that?”
“BEE!”
We both averted our attention to James on across the filed.
“WHAT?” I shouted.
“CALL OLIVER, I’M NOT WALKING HOME.” He called.
I crinkled my forehead, “YOU WUSS. HOW DO YOU EXPECT TO MAKE THE TEAM IF YOU CAN’T EVEN WALK HOME?” I heard Gemma giggle next to me.
“I’M COMING BACK TOMORROW, FOR THE SEOCND TRYOUTS, WEREN’T YOU WATCHING?” He seemed annoyed.
Crap, well I can make it up, “YEAH, BUT I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT IT MEANT, CONGRATZ!”
He gave me a thumb up and ran off to the change rooms.
“Who’s Oliver?” Gemma asked.
“His driver, but I’m not calling him, he honestly only lives ten minutes away walking, he can make it.”
“Oh I see. Diver huh? He must be rich.” She mumbled to herself.
Well. She’s right. James is filthy rich. His dad is the creator of the line of factories that my dad works at. He lives in a beautiful house with just about everything in it and oddly enough, he rather be at my tiny three bedroom apartment my dad and I live in most of the time. But I think that’s due mostly to Azumi, he’s James’s idol.
“Hey Belia? Why can’t James have a girlfriend?” One of the blondes asked me.
James was approaching us now; I smirked, “Because she needs to be approved by me first.” They all looked confused, and half a second later, “Hey you did great out there!”
RAWLINGS 02
“Thanks, did you call Oliver?” I was dead tired. I don’t even know why I’m doing this, its so much work.
“No you lazy ass we’re walking home.” Belia said quickly.
“Beee!” she does not understand. Football tryouts were hell, and I have to do it again tomorrow. I need a ride.
She huffed, “Its ten minutes! You will survive.”
Then the most beautiful voice ever spoke, “You looked really, really good out there by the way James.”
I stood still. Just looking at her. She was so hot. And she actually came. And she saw me being told to come back tomorrow, so that means I will most likely make the team. This is good. Now words, words would be good. Where are my words?
“James?” I turned to Belia.
“Say thank you to the pretty girl.” She instructed.
I repeated, “Thanks.”
Belia was laughing her ass off by this point and I am now beyond embarrassment.
Gemma smiled at me, “You are so cute.”
“Gems, we have to go our bus is coming in like, three seconds.” A blonde said, I think it was Jen.
“See you around then James, bye Belia.” She smiled and waved and left.
Belia was still giggling, “Come on loverboy lets go home.”
Thank you Belia, for embarrassing me in front of the hottest girl alive and her hot friends, again, “I am never speaking to you ever again.”
She just kept on laughing. I planned on giving her the silent treatment and in turn she made fun of me until we reached her building.
“Are you coming in loverboy?” she teased.
“No.”
“He speaks!”
“Just so you know you really made me feel like a douche back there.” I said seriously.
“You were staring at her, to the point of creepiness, I had to say something.” She retorted. “I saved your ass today.”
“So you say.” She doesn’t always have to be right.
“Whatever, I’m going up, see you tomorrow morning?”
“Yeah, Oliver’s gonna pick you up.” There was no way that I was walking to school tomorrow morning.
“You are so lazy.” She said instantly.
“I have to save my energy!”
“Sure. Goodbye James.” She said, and then walked into the building.
“Cyeah.”
